Connect CoreThink's advanced reasoning capabilities directly to your VS Code with Cline extension for autonomous coding agents and intelligent development assistance.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have:
- Visual Studio Code installed
- A CoreThink account with an active API key
- Git installed (for project operations)
- Internet connection
Step 1: Install Cline Extension
- Open VS Code
- Navigate to the Extensions view (Ctrl+Shift+X or Cmd+Shift+X)
- Search for “Cline”
- Click Install on “Cline - Autonomous Coding Agent”
Alternative: Install directly from the VS Code Marketplace
Step 2: Get Your CoreThink API Key
- Go to CoreThink Dashboard
- Sign in to your account
- Navigate to your Dashboard
- Create an API Key (copy it immediately - you won’t see it again)
- Create an organization if you don’t have one
Step 3: Open Cline Settings
- Click on the Cline icon in the VS Code activity bar
- Click the settings gear icon ⚙️
- Select “API Configuration”
- Choose “OpenAI Compatible” as the provider
Step 4: Configure CoreThink API
Enter the following configuration:

Base URL:
- Enter:
https://api.corethink.ai/v1/code
API Key:
- Paste your CoreThink API key
Model:
- Enter:
corethink
Max Tokens:
- Set to
4000(or8000for large projects)
Step 5: Configure Agent Settings
Optimize Cline’s autonomous agent behavior:
- Auto-approve: Disabled (review changes first)
- Context Window: 128k (maximum supported)
- Temperature: 0.3 (more deterministic)
- Allow File Creation: Enabled
- Allow Terminal Commands: Enabled (with review)
Step 6: Try It Out
Start using Cline with CoreThink AI! Open the Cline chat panel and begin your autonomous coding session.
Troubleshooting
Connection Issues
- Verify your API key is correct and active
- Ensure you’re using the correct endpoint:
https://api.corethink.ai/v1/code - Check your internet connection
- Restart VS Code after configuration
Model Not Found
- Ensure you entered
corethinkexactly (case-sensitive) - Check that the base URL is correct:
https://api.corethink.ai/v1/code - Verify your API provider is set to “OpenAI Compatible”
Agent Not Responding
- Check that auto-approve is configured correctly
- Verify your API key has sufficient credits
- Try increasing the max tokens limit
- Check Cline’s activity panel for error messages
API Key Errors
- Generate a new API key from here
- Ensure your organization has available credits
- Verify the API key is correctly pasted without extra spaces
