Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • Visual Studio Code installed
  • A CoreThink account with an active API key
  • Basic understanding of AI reasoning concepts
  • Internet connection

Step 1: Install Roo Code Extension

  1. Open VS Code
  2. Navigate to the Extensions view (Ctrl+Shift+X or Cmd+Shift+X)
  3. Search for “Roo Code”
  4. Click Install on the Roo Code extension

Alternative: Install directly from the VS Code Marketplace

Step 2: Get Your CoreThink API Key

  1. Go to CoreThink Dashboard
  2. Sign in to your account
  3. Navigate to your Dashboard
  4. Create an API Key (copy it immediately - you won’t see it again)
  5. Create an organization if you don’t have one

Step 3: Open Roo Code Settings

  1. Click on the Roo Code icon in the VS Code activity bar
  2. Click the settings gear icon ⚙️
  3. Select “Model Configuration”
  4. Choose “OpenAI Compatible” as the provider

Step 4: Configure CoreThink API

Enter the following configuration:

API Provider:

  • Choose: OpenAI Compatible

Base URL:

  • Enter: https://api.corethink.ai/v1/code

API Key:

  • Paste your CoreThink API key

Model:

  • Enter: corethink

Max Tokens:

  • Set to 8000 (for complex reasoning)

Step 5: Configure Reasoning Settings

Optimize Roo Code’s reasoning capabilities:

  • Temperature: 0.1 (more deterministic reasoning)
  • Context Window: 128k (maximum for complex problems)
  • Chain of Thought: Enabled
  • Step-by-Step Analysis: Enabled
  • Code Explanation Depth: Detailed

Step 6: Try It Out

Start using Roo Code with CoreThink AI! Open the Roo Code chat panel and experience advanced reasoning capabilities.

Troubleshooting

Connection Issues

  • Verify your API key is correct and active
  • Ensure you’re using the correct endpoint: https://api.corethink.ai/v1/code
  • Check your internet connection
  • Restart VS Code after configuration

Model Not Found

  • Ensure you entered corethink exactly (case-sensitive)
  • Check that the base URL is correct: https://api.corethink.ai/v1/code
  • Verify your API provider is set to “OpenAI Compatible”

Slow Reasoning Responses

  • Increase the max tokens limit to 8000 or higher
  • Enable all reasoning features for better analysis
  • Check your internet connection speed

API Key Errors

  • Generate a new API key from here
  • Ensure your organization has available credits
  • Verify the API key is correctly pasted without extra spaces
