Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • Windsurf IDE installed
  • A CoreThink account with an active API key
  • Git installed (for project operations)
  • Internet connection

Step 1: Install Windsurf

  1. Download Windsurf from windsurf.com
  2. Install and launch the application
  3. Complete the initial setup

Step 2: Get Your CoreThink API Key

  1. Go to CoreThink Dashboard
  2. Sign in to your account
  3. Navigate to your Dashboard
  4. Create an API Key (copy it immediately - you won’t see it again)
  5. Create an organization if you don’t have one

Step 3: Open Windsurf Settings

  1. Open Windsurf IDE
  2. Press Cmd+, (Mac) or Ctrl+, (Windows/Linux) to open Settings
  3. Search for “AI” or “Model” settings
  4. Navigate to the AI provider configuration

Step 4: Configure CoreThink API

Enter the following configuration:

API Provider:

  • Choose: OpenAI Compatible or Custom

Base URL:

  • Enter: https://api.corethink.ai/v1/code

API Key:

  • Paste your CoreThink API key

Model:

  • Enter: corethink

Step 5: Verify Configuration

  1. Open a code file in Windsurf
  2. Start typing to trigger AI suggestions
  3. Use the AI chat panel to test the connection

Step 6: Try It Out

Start using Windsurf with CoreThink AI! The AI assistant will now use CoreThink’s reasoning capabilities for code completion and chat.

Troubleshooting

Connection Issues

  • Verify your API key is correct and active
  • Ensure you’re using the correct endpoint: https://api.corethink.ai/v1/code
  • Check your internet connection
  • Restart Windsurf after configuration

Model Not Found

  • Ensure you entered corethink exactly (case-sensitive)
  • Check that the base URL is correct: https://api.corethink.ai/v1/code
  • Verify your API provider is set to “OpenAI Compatible”

API Key Errors

  • Generate a new API key from here
  • Ensure your organization has available credits
  • Verify the API key is correctly pasted without extra spaces
